General Signup Help
The Sign-up form is the form that you use to begin interacting with the web site. By no means does this form enroll you in the course. It is not the responsibility of the creators of this web site, or the instructor to ensure your proper enrollment in this course. As of the creation of this document, the only way to enroll in a course is in person at the Victor Valley College Admissions Office. Some of the participants in the course may have elected to not enroll but to take the course for non academic reasons. If you choose to take a course without enrolling you must make arrangements with the instructor. (NOTE TO HACKERS: If you attempt to spoof the system using invalid charachters in any field, your IP and the time will be recorded and action will be taken to prosecute to the fullest extent of the law - ie. 5 years in federal imprisonment and a fine of no less than $5000.) This action may be taken by both the owners of the site and the host, resulting in legal actions by both parties.
Your First Name Field
In this field you are to type your first name as it appears on your class schedule. You may also elect to include your middle initial here. In this field, as all other fields in the form, any non-alphanumeric data (anything that is not a letter or number) will be removed without predjudice.
Your Last Name Field
In this field you are to type your last name as it appears on your class schedule. In this field, as all other fields in the form, any non-alphanumeric data (anything that is not a letter or number) will be removed without predjudice.
Your Email Address Field
Fill out your correct email address in this field. If you do not have an email address you may recieve one free of charge at many sites on the internet. You may want to check out http://mail.yahoo.com to obtain a free email address from them. (NOTE TO HACKERS: If you attempt to spoof the system using invalid charachters in this or any field, your IP and the time will be recorded and action will be taken to prosecute to the fullest extent of the law - ie. 5 years in federal imprisonment and a fine of no less than $5000.)
Create Your Username Field
You may enter any name you like here, if your name is John Smith, we'd like to reccomend "jsmith" it's easy to remember and also easy to identify. For the duration of the course, this name is the name that will be used to identify you. Only the instructor has access to your real name, so that if you choose to remain anonymous to the other students, you may. In this field, as all other fields in the form, any non-alphanumeric data (anything that is not a letter or number) will be removed without predjudice.
The Select Your Class Menu
Click on this menu to pull down the list of available classes. Select your course by clicking on the appropriate name in the list.
Create A Password Field
You may use any word, numbers or combonation therein for a password. Your password must be at least four charachters long, but not more than twelve. You will use this password to gain access to your messages. In this field, as all other fields in the form, any non-alphanumeric data (anything that is not a letter or number) will be removed without predjudice.
Re-Type Your Password Field
Because the password field is "Blacked Out" you must confirm the correct password you created by typing it again into this field.
The Authorization Code
You should recieve an authorization code from your instructor to enter in this field. If you have lost or forgotten this code contact the instructor.

Error Messages During Signup
From time to time the system may inform you of an error in your entries on this form. If you recieve the "Oops" message it will ber followed by a brief description of the error you may have made. Some errors may be due to invalid or awkward keystrokes on the form. Listed below are all of the messages that can be generated and what you can do about them.
Your Authorization Code is not valid
Either you typed in the wrong authorization code or misspelled it somehow. If you are certain you have not made such a mistake, contact the instructor.
Your username was invalid (probably empty)
The system does accept any foul language in this field, if you typed a word that the system recognizes as having such a pattern, it may inform you, or remove the data. Check for "unusual" patterns in your username.
Your first Name was invalid
The system feels your name was not entered correctly. Type your name again and submit the form.
Your last Name was invalid
The system feels your name was not entered correctly. Type your name again and submit the form.
Your email address was invalid
A word of caution here, Please note that the system only takes "standard" email addresses. (ie. user@host.com) Users of Lotus Notes and groupwise that have special charachters such as a space, underscore or a slash should obtain a "freemail" address for communicating during this course. Attempts to enter invalid charachters may be considered hostile and spur an investigation. Please enter your email address carefully.
Your password must be at least four characters long.
Just as it states. If you need futher explaination of this error, please consult with your nearest first grader, they may have a valid explaination that goes into more depth about the limitations of a four letter word.
It appears as if you already have created your user.
Someone with a first and last name similar to yours may have entered prior to you. If you have already signed up once email your instructor. He may be able to refresh your memory about your password. If you are taking more than one course at the site and you must have two usernames, put a number after your first name indicating a second course as such: john2. If you are certain you have not filled out this form before, include your middle initial in the first name field as such: john a.
The user name you chose is taken.
That's what it means, somebody beat you to your username. You'll have to make up a new one. Hit the back button in your browser and change that field to a different username.
No Topic was selected.
In order to take any course this field must accurately reflect the course you are taking. After you have successfully created your user at the site, the course name will appear at the top of each page in your messages. If this is not correct, email your instructor, he will need to remove your user so that you may create a new one.

Special Instructions For Taking Multiple Courses Simultaneously:
If you are taking two or more of the online courses listed here in the same semester, be certain to inform you instructor during the orientation. You will need to create two "profiles" or Usernames, one for each course. Since the system checks for your real name you will have to alter your first name. Append your first name with a number indicating that you are aware of each of the submissions.
